This study analyzes over 1,400 of Vinícius Júnior’s tweets to show how he uses multilingual, multimodal posts to build a virtual self, signal blackness, and contest anti-Black racism, arguing racism must be central in applied linguistics research.
These projects use Gothic and monster theory and linguistic / stylistic analysis to examine the human-monster divide and the role of trauma within the liminal spaces of this divide.
